Spyware Protection – 3 Ways To Prevent Spyware

Articles 0 Comment »

Spyware is becoming the worst threat on the internet, with offending programs becoming more and more widespread. Also known as malware, these programs are invasive and some have the ability to steal personal information such as passwords and credit card numbers. Here are three ways to protect yourself.

1.) Stay away from file sharing programs. Programs like Kazaa, Limewire, and Bearshare are notorious for installing multitudes of spyware programs on users computers. The top offender is Kazaa, which carries with it multiple malware programs that could potentially put the user at risk for serious security breaches.

2.) Download and use Firefox. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is known to be full of security holes. Since Internet Explorer is the most widely used browser, cyber criminal programmers aim directly at IE’s security holes. Internet Explorer also shares an intimate connection with the Windows operating system, allowing renegade software to significantly disrupt the computer. Many savvy computer users are turning to alternative browsers such as Mozilla’s Firefox. Firefox is known to be much more secure than Internet Explorer. Also, since it is also less widely used, cyber-criminals do not tend to focus on trying to exploit it.

3.) Install a spyware removal program. This is an extremely important step. Without a reputable anti-spyware program, malware can sit on your computer undetected. Computer Virus software like Norton and Symantec are not presently geared for these programs, and consistently miss them during system scans. After a while these insidious programs build up, and can create a sluggish system, and even steal personal information such as passwords and credit card information. Because of the explosion in spyware and malware over the past 12 months, it is important to purchase a reputable removal program that has continued support and updates. It is prudent to stay away from “free” programs as these can miss spyware and are often “rogue” programs that install their own malware in order to goad users into paying for a useless program.

Spyware:

Malicious programs that stealthily embed themselves into your software. They are installed in your software, without your knowledge, in many ways. Through e-mail especially, the ones that are multi-forwarded. You know who sent it to you, but what about all of those other names? Who are they? Through free scans or free downloads. Through Web sites that you visit that specialize in this practice, and music downloads. These must be removed from your computer before they cause damage to your operating system and applications and bring your system to a halt.

Effects:

A spyware program is rarely alone on a computer,an affected machine can rapidly be infected by many other components. Users frequently notice unwanted behavior and degradation of system performance. A spyware infestation can create significant unwanted CPU activity, disk usage, and network traffic, all of which slow the computer down. Stability issues, such as application or system-wide crashes, are also common. Spyware, which interferes with networking software commonly causes difficulty connecting to the Internet.

Security :

The first step to removing the virus (spyware) is to put your computer on “lock down.” This can be done in various ways such as using your anti-virus software, or simply disconnect your computer from all internet actives. This will make whoever is in control of the virus unable to have any control of your computer. The second step to removing the spyware is to locate it and remove it, manually or by virus protection software. Also, stay away from websites that have potential threats to your computer. Spyware on Computer – 10 Reasons You Need to Remove It

Articles Comments Off

If you are reading this article there is a very good chance that you may have spyware on your computer. Why? Because any computer that accesses the internet is open to being infected by spyware, adware, and malware downloads. And more often then not you won’t even know you’ve been infected until you start to see the tell-tale signs.

The most outward signs of a spyware and adware infestation is decreased computer performance and annoying pop-up ads that appear faster then you can minimize them. Unfortunately you may not notice any problem at all while these programs run secretly in the background, sending your personal information back to their creators.

So how does this crappy software get on your computer? It’s easier then you may think. If you’ve ever downloaded anything off the internet your chances of having spyware and/or adware are pretty good. Games, music, screensavers, those cute little emoticons can all have malware hidden in their downloads. Simply clicking on any pop-up ad that appears can also have the same effect.

Once your computer has been exposed to the internet the chances of having some form of spyware or adware installed is increased if you don’t protect yourself with a good spyware blocker and removal program. If that’s not a good enough reason to protect your personal property and information here are 10 more reasons you need to be wary of spyware on computer.

1. Your computer may start running slower
2. Some programs on your computer will not run correctly
3. You may not recognize programs that are now on your computer because they may have been installed there by a spyware related web site or program you loaded on your computer.
4. Someone might be able to read your e-mails.
5. Someone might be able to access your e-mail list.
6. Someone might be able to see you track the keystrokes you type.
7. Someone might be able to access your credit card information on your pc.
8. Someone might be able to access your passwords list on your computer.
9. Someone might be able to steal your social security number.
10. Someone might be able to track all the web sites you visit.

In this day and age it only makes sense to protect your personal information from those who may wish to use it against you or for their own gain. We are a computer reliant society and as such these same time saving machines can be exploited by those who wish us harm, either through malicious virus attacks or spyware that seeks to spy on and steal information that needs to be closely guarded. If you think you have been exposed and have spyware on your computer it is important that you do a spyware scan as soon as possible.

Beware of This Spyware Hoax!

Articles Comments Off

If you surf the Internet very often, or even at all, there is a spyware hoax that you should be aware of. There may come a time when you are looking through a website and come across a popup that claims that you have spyware on your computer. The popup will ask you to click so that you can scan your computer for spyware, and remove it. If you get a popup like this, you absolutely do not want to click on that popup, as it will install harmful files to your computer.

Unfortunately, if you do get this popup you most likely already have spyware installed on your computer. There are a number of places where you may have picked up spyware; they include peer-to-peer file sharing, gambling sites, **** sites, email attachments, as well as by downloading, and installing freeware or shareware programs.

Don’t be lulled into thinking that you will be immune to spyware if you have great anti spyware software installed on your computer. To be on the safe side, you should always avoid these types of activities to begin with, and if you do detect these files with anti spyware tools, ensure that the files are removed from your computer immediately.

If, despite having the best software on your computer, you do come across the spyware popup, do not click on it; instead you will need to find and install the best anti spyware tools that are available. After you have done this, you will need to scan your hard drive and find the spyware that was placed on your system and remove it.

To keep your computer running at its top capacity, having anti virus software just isn’t enough. You also have to have quality anti spyware tools that will help catch a problem if malicious file try to download to your system. In addition, you have to do some regular maintenance on your computer, which includes scanning for spyware files. And remember, to really be safe it is best to keep away from questionable sites where you could pick up these dangerous spyware files.

The same as a car, a computer will only run the way it is suppose to if it is taken care of. You wouldn’t think of running your car without motor oil, so don’t run your computer while it is infected with spyware. Give your computer a tune up that includes using anti spyware utilities.

Spyware Protection

Articles Comments Off

Spyware protection is a very dynamic field that is continuously changing. As new spyware are released into the market, updated versions of spyware protection programs are also released. Thus, the race to block newer versions of spyware continues endlessly. This is further compounded when a spyware is released that is disguised as an anti-spyware product. Such frauds and pranks can be avoided by selecting a reputed company for buying or downloading the anti-spyware product.

Some of the reliable companies that offer this protection are Microsoft and Spybot – Search and Destroy. Preventive software is also available in the market that prevents any spyware from entering the system. Some other simple steps can be followed in order to prevent spyware from entering the system. These include blocking file types that are spyware carriers such as EXE, COM, PIF, SCR, VBS, SHS, CHM and BAT file types. Another step is to block any file type that has more than one extension such as LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.VBS or ANNAKOURNIKOVA.JPG.VBS. Another preventive measure is to check and scan all the files by sending them to IT professionals, especially if the system is used for business purposes.

Other technological steps that can be taken in order to remove or detect spyware are constantly upgrading and downloading the latest versions of anti spyware programs. E-mails and other incoming data can also be constantly checked so that junk and spam mails can be prevented from entering the system. Computers connected to the outer world can be appropriately protected from Internet threats using firewalls. Notebook PC’s and remote home workers should be included since they also need firewall protection and might not be able to take help of a central firewall inside a company.

Spyware protection is becoming a necessity rather than a luxury because of the ever-expanding state of the Internet and the growing Internet crimes. Many companies and people have suffered losses due to spyware and protection is an unavoidable choice that Internet users have to make.

Most adware distributors are supported by multimillion dollar adware-generating income.

There was a time when the person did not have to worry about viruses, spyware, worms and other headaches. Unfortunately, these things are here and people have to deal with it rather than becoming another victim.

Given that this problem affects everyone on a global scale, software companies have come out with various products to deal with the threat. Here are a few examples of those that are quite popular in the market.

1. McAfee is one of the many software companies that can help make those spyware and adware programs go away. Unfortunately, people have to pay for it since it doesn’t offer a 15 or a 30-day trial period.

2. Those who have genuine installed windows operating systems can download Windows Defender for free. The system will scan for potential problems and get rid of it, product updates will be downloaded automatically and problems incurred will be reported back to Microsoft so a solution can be made to fix the problem.

3. Those who feel more comfortable after getting a good review from some of the top PC magazines can also try downloading Spybot Search and Destroy. This program solves any spyware and adware currently in the computer and keeps it out for good.

4. Adaware is another company that has been around providing security for computer users. It has various versions and those who will use it for personal get downloaded the program for free. Those who choose it to use it for business will have to pay a fee.

5. Ewido Security Suite is also another free program that can take care of both spyware and adware. The designers of the system have even designed it to handle Trojans, dialers, worms and keylogger.

6. Another company joining the fight against spyware and adware is Symantec. It has various versions available and the individual can download the software for a 30-day free trial period. After the time is up, the customer can choose to buy the program to ensure the computer is safe from any threats.

7. Spyware Guard is a free program courtesy of Java Cool. It works just like the others making sure no harm comes to the files inside the computer.

The products just mentioned are the most frequently used by people in the market. All the free spyware and adware programs once downloaded will first scan the computer for any problems and once these have been identified, will be deleted preventing it from coming back.

Software and Adware programs can be purchased online or from the store. The person should make sure that there is enough space in the hard drive so this can be installed and fully operational within minutes.

It will also be a good idea to make sure the software that is about to be downloaded comes from a reputable site because there are some bogus programs that are just as harmful as the spyware and adware itself.

Computer users are also advised to set up a firewall and a backup disk because no matter how great the system is, hackers and other designers out there are still coming up with newer ones that can bypass the system.

Given that the threat is always there, won’t it be good idea to get something that can protect the computer?
